Mars thru the crap-o-scope

It's amazing what a little physical proximity can do. Even through my 60 mm "400 POWER!!!" Sears (yes, Sears) telescope (I apply the word "telescope" loosely here), with a worse-than-wretched alt-azimuth mount, I was able to see the south polar icecap last night at roughly 80x magnification. Along with some fascinating color gradients that I rather suspect were due to chromatic aberration...

Which begs the question - what's a good price for a used C8? A friend has one and wants a Nexstar C11 GPS or whatever it's called. Gimme a rough idea.

I did a quick Google search, and found prices from $600 to $1,000. The hard part is going to be finding someone who wants to part with one! :o

Its called a Nexstar 11 GPS and their really expensive (not TOO expensive) new.

The friend with the C8 found a Nexstar 11 GPS on eBay for $1400 - cash only. Danger! Danger! She left it alone, wisely.
