Anyway, I looked him up, he joined on the 5th and hasn't posted yet. I've thought about sending him a PM explaining how there could be a mix-up, and how he doesn't want to be blamed for something I might post (or the other way around). I'm thinking that I might just wait and see what develops. It could be an honest mistake. What do you folks suggest??

ToSeek

I noticed he listed flight simulation as his interest, so one could assume his tag stands for Royal Air Force.

Could Gullible Jones be JS Princeton in disguise. GJ claims to be a 15 year old nerd, but seems very bright for his age.

I note that JS Princeton was banned on the 13th November 2003, and that Gullible Jones op'd on the 13th May 2004, perhaps after serving a six month ban? This is just idle speculation of course, and I apologise profusely if I am wrong.

But it seems to me that, while GJs posts are a little more mellow and brief for the most part, they are nonetheless similar!

JS Princeton: (http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=166592#166592) "WRONG. This is absolutely untrue and JK should retract it because he is basically lying. However, it's nothing new. He's known for doing this."

Gullible Jones: (http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=286937#286937) "This is my last post on this thread. I am tired of dealing with such high levels of intentional ignorance and illogic; therefore, I wash my hands clean of this whole business.

"Do not think that I am admitting defeat; I am admitting victory. This laughable parody of a theory has been beaten to death, yet you refuse to stop posting the same things, over and over and over again. I see not the use of beating a dead theory."

Sorry to jump in here, since I'm brand new to this board, but I recommend you keep your current username. The mods should make it policy to delete any new accounts that are too similar to current members. Trolls like to pull stunts like this to increase confusion. I say give them the boot. You can be polite about it, of course. Send them a PM (if this board has that feature) or an email and tell them they have to choose another name.

Just my two cents worth on that.

Good riddance.
I'm a little disappointed at losing him so soon, at least before I could make a (mostly) thoughtful reply. For example, I figured out how he got the numbers on that Kabala-esque chart of his. By this I mean the numbers that are not in square brackets (which were level numbers of some sort, the top-most [1] should be a [0], BTW) or parentheses (not sure what these are, but they seem to be in a repeating sequence of 2, 1, 0, 2, 1, 0, ... modulo 3 working down). Of course his explanation of what these levels and numbers are is incoherent to say the least.

I regret not having had the chance to reply to one of his posts just so I could end my reply with "Brother, can you paradigm?" Aahh! Feel the catharsis!

Not quite. DDOS = Distributed Denial-of-Service attack, in which multiple computers (usually in an automated fashion) flood a network node (usually a server or server cluster) with many handshaking-type requests, logon attempts, Web page requests, whatever. This has the effect of preventing anyone else from using the system, because it gets bogged down trying to answer all the requests. It's like preventing someone from calling your phone, or you from calling out, by setting up a dozen speed-dialers all calling you continuously. DDOS attacks often cause server crashes, and cause no end of headaches to system administrators.

Although the FBI, Dept. of Justice, NIPC (National Infrastructure Protection Center), etc., websites are a little murky on this subject, at least to my casual glance, I'm pretty sure an intentional DOS attack is a federal crime in the U.S.A. under the National Infrastructure Protection Act.

This guy and his sock-puppet were encouraging a DOS attack against someone else, not attempting one against BABB. But even if it was legal, and no matter how unlovely the proposed target, it's just wrong. It's like those yokels who get togeher and shout down someone giving a speech.

"Missed" as in "Darn! I really need to spend more time on the skeet range!"

As for shouting down, it is hardly confined to folks who are to the left on the political scale. Though perhaps, and I say this as someone who thinks of himself as kinda liberal, there may have been more of a history of protest from the "left" in general because the targets of protest have tended to be more establishment and happy with the status quo. That's a whopping generalization, but you get the idea. Anyway, I'll say no more on this political topic, at least not here.

How can anyone overload on the spices? Now back to readying the ingredients for habanero chile. Yum! 8)

That reminds me, too bad Tooncey wasn't still around, I'd share my recipe for this dish. It would immediately get his feline mind off politics. And again about 12 or so hours later.

My ex-sister in law put on a dinner party one night. Now, I'm not saying that she was completely inept in the kitchen, but.....I can't think of another way to finish that sentence.

The recipe called for a cup of chicken stock. So that's what she put in - she got a container of chicken stock cubes and ground them up until she had a measuring cup full and then put that into the food. 8 years later, the memory of the taste still brings me out in a cold sweat. It was so salty that you could feel the fluid being drawn out of your cells......

LOL! Wonder what memories are stirred when you go by a pasture and the cattle are licking away?

Reminds me of when I was a kid and one evening it became my responsibility to fix dinner. The required meal was spaghetti. There was no spaghetti sauce available, so I had to make it from scratch, following some recipe in a book that was falling apart.

I thought a "clove" of garlic meant the entire bulb.

Any vampires in the neighborhood gave our place a wide berth for weeks.

No, maybe and no. Thanks for your opinion though.

I remeber a discussion about multiple logins from the same IP (or computer) being unacceptable, but I cannot remember if that was here or somewhere else. If that really is the case though, polite discussion with the BA should sort it out, while throwing insults around will probably just seal the issue.

There are several examples of multiple posters from the same cumputer. But they are different family members. Good examples are husband and wife posters or siblings.

But they do not have one person with multiple active accounts. That is against the rules. That is what that person was doing. One person with multiple active accounts. That is not allowed. Nor is someone who was banned allowed to come back and post again under someone else.

I assume this is why Phil waits for proof of sock puppetry before swinging the ban stick. It's easy enough to find a poster's IP, with the exception of one ISP.

tuffel999

Some people could have multiple accounts appearing from the same ip if their are behind a router that is assigned just one ip by the isp and they are using NAT. IE if you have a fraternity house with 6 guys there and 3 post they will have the same ip if they are behind a router using NAT. It is not against the rules but if the ip banning tool is used too much and too swiftly it could hurt innocent people.

Two different people, no, that's not sock-puppetry.

On the other hand, if you were the same person (and I'm not accusing you of this, mind you) as one or more of Prince, Yul, Yannox, Oyvey, or Armilus (and I'm not saying one or more of them was the same, mind you), that would be. Not to mention a AUG violation for reincarnating yourself (not that I'm saying you have, mind you).

Your provider has a chunk of IP numbers that it distributes to its customers. Some people have dynamic addresses which means they are assigned a new IP from the pool each time they connect. So I connect (say by dial-up), get an IP, do my dirty work, then hang up. My old address is returned to the pool and awaits another (unsuspecting) user to pick it up.
