Here is a good article explaining things which are currently going on in the former Yugoslavia

ANALYSIS: Tensions rise in Balkans (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071102/ap_on_re_eu/balkans_soaring_tensions_2)
Facing a possible loss of Kosovo, Serbian nationalists are re-igniting tensions in the Balkans, a region still reeling from brutal civil wars in the 1990s.
They're sending out dark hints about coming to the aid of their Serb brethren in neighboring Bosnia — a prospect that could unleash a new wave of ethnic violence.

brianok,
Some friendly advice... an interesting article, but posting that much of it (apparently the whole thing) probably violates BAUT rules on posting copy righted material. You might wish to post just the first paragraph (for example) and a link to the rest of the article.

I face that delima fairly often; how to post enough so that those who do not like clickey-links can still know what the post is about, but little enough that it's not reproducing the article (violating copywrite rules). I'll take it the op has been edited, however, as there's only two paragraphs quoted now.
wrt the op: as Helen Lovejoy so perfectly puts it, "Oh, won't someone please think of the children?!"

Again?
This is not gonna look well when Serbia ever comes up for potential EU admission. If the Serbian government is smart, they'll quash the little b*s*rds behind this plot and look for a more peaceful means of reuniting with the Serbian part of Bosnia.

Republic Srpska (the Serbian part of Bosnia)
will never be allowed to join Serbia.
That would be tantamount to rewarding the genocide which occured during the war.

Sadly, saying "tensions rise in Balkans" is kind of like saying "Conflict occurs in Middle East". It's just a rerun of the last millenium or so of history.

Do you think it would have been allowed prior to the genocidal acts? I only ask because if it was a possibility before, but because of the actions committed when the answer became no, to now say it will never happen because of what they did seems odd. Obviously, it was not going to be allowed, even against all logic, regardless of atrocities committed after the decisions were made.
I know I may be asking way way too much in expecting politically charged issues to be settled logically. I still have a hard time accepting, even after 40 years of observation, that most politicians (be they militaristic dictators or marketed and elected poster children) most closely resemble spoiled, immature, bratty children in their behaviors.
