I just installed the latest version of firefox and now the browser tries to be "helpful" when I'm typing in searches by listing anything in the past that I've typed. I've tried to turn it off in tools>options>advanced, but it hasn't changed anything. My previous version didn't have this problem

Any ideas? It's really quite irritating

Pete

PS: version 2.0.0.4 according to the help menu

You might try unchecking the option under Tools/Options/Privacy that reads Remember what I enter in forms and the search bar.

I have two real gripes about v. 2.0.0.4.

First it keeps crashing.

Second, I'm now getting new windows showing up with advertising that I never saw before. AdBlock doesn't seem to want to help with blocking these URLs.

why are you guys just doing this now? What version could you possibly be talking about? I've been on 2.0.0.4 for like a month

You could use Safari... unless you despise Apple.

I've been pretty happy with 2.0.0.4. I tend to keep multiple windows with multiple tabs open, but previous versions of Firefox would chew up memory quickly and wouldn't release it. I would kill Firefox deliberately to free up memory, then bring it back up to restore its prior state. I haven't had to do that with this version. I've had it crash twice, but was able to bring it right back to prior state, and I've had prior versions crash too. Aside from being better with memory I haven't noticed a change in behavior.

Go to Help > about mozilla firefox.

Type about:config into the address bar

Type search into the filter box

Double-click browser.search.suggest.enabled to change it to false.

That should take care of it for you.
