Hi,

I recently started to try and capture the full moon at high (well high for me, medium for some other) resolution. Roughly with my setup it would take 8x8 pictures (avi) to do the full moon. So I need to stitch (or mosaic) them.

I did start by taking the "shadow" band to have good details at one night (8 AVI from top to bottom processed with registax). I then merged them together with Photoshop. I had to play with contrast, rotation and so on to adjust the 8 pictures together. That worked perfectly.

Then 2 days later, I took another 8 avi band (on the shadow again). I did mosaic them together and it did work perfectly again.

So then my problem started... I tried to match the 2 bands together (taken 2 days apart) and it does not fit.. I tried to rotate them, scale them, even distortion them with some "adjust" option in photoshop and it does not work. When I "fit together" a crater on one side of the moon, the other side falls apart, it does not fit at all, like 30 pixels away). No matter how I adjust the images I cannot find a way to merge them correctly.

So my question is why :)... Basically I took the pictures 2 days apart with the same equipment, same resolution, same zoom, same everything but the pictures just does not match together.

So if you can tell me why, then maybe I could find a way to fix it.

Thanks

Hi hatan.

Have you heard of (autostitch), its a freeware program that makes mosaics. Maybe that will help
