View Full Version : Why am I being accused of spamming?

Over on SG1archive, I've been posting my own thoughts on the episodes for some time now. I style my first posts on the Cynic's Corner (http://www.cynicscorner.org/index.html).
Then things turned ugly in this thread (http://www.sg1archive.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15526). My post is on the second page. A couple of posters (Revan and JTMAG1) started ganging up on me over it and
have now accused me of spamming.
How are my posts spam?

Anybody who disagrees with you can call your posts "spam".
If they agree with you, they will try to "prove" their point of view by linking to your messages that they agree with.
This is the internet.

As Sam5 implies, they seem to think that any post that annoys them is "spam," not exactly the standard definition.

I've just seen the final episode of Atlantis season 3 and I want to post my season review. Do you think I should and risk them moaning about me spamming because I posted my opinions of the episode as you are supposed to do in those fora?

Do these people have any authority?

*shrug* Let 'em moan. If you're worried about it, ask to have the thread checked by a mod, make sure your end of it is kosher.

Not sure. But they sure are mean. People are much nicer here.

Looks like they didn't appreciate your posting style. Revan seems to be the only one with authoritah there, but I didn't see your posts as spam. Unfortunately, the really bad fanboys tend to get extremely rabid if they see something that doesn't immediately conform to their beliefs.

That's because if they're not, dread Wolverine or Antoniseb will consume their souls.

There are people that get mean, over the opinion of a television show?
Gads, how do they react to stuff that has real consequence?

I wonder what fillet of soul tastes like?
(Meh, probably tastes like chicken. Everything else does.)

More like pork, actually. ;)

Huh. So souls aren't kosher? Good to know. :D

I always wonder why people get so worked up over how others react to their forum posts. It's the internet. Anyone can say whatever they want regardless of maturity (or lack there-of, e.g., me) or intelligence (or lack there-of...again, e.g. me ;) ). Who cares what others say? Post an opinion, if they don't agree you can argue your point, but if they still don't agree just leave it be.
Makes me realize exactly why the Crusades happened. Humans apparently have this built in desire to make everyone else think exactly as they do. My philosophy has always been, "If you agree with me, great. If not, fine. If you like me, good...most people do. If you don't, it's your loss not mine".

I've gotten pretty worked up over some forum posts before, but invariably it's because it's about something close to home and more important than TV. As in, people insulting the mentally ill will hear from me. (Over on Apollo Hoax, Bill Thompson is trying to tell me what bipolar people are like!) I'm careful not to post when I'm not sure I can control the level at which I respond, though. I can't fathom calling someone a spammer because they don't like my favorite show.
Then again, lots of people generally fail to like my favorite shows. That's why My So-Called Life, Joan of Arcadia, and Twin Peaks got cancelled; not enough people liked them. (Well, in Joan's case, not enough people of the right demographic. Stupid CBS.)

The last couple of posts, who's acting weird? Me or them?
Just want to clarify since I can't tell.

:) Well, I think you're acting weird in that you're seeking support from a completely unrelated forum. But that was kinda the muddled point of my first reply.
To answer your question about your post; I dunno. Never checked out the posts. I'm not a member of that board, nor do I have any interest in it. And, most importantly, I'm lazy. So can't help ya there. Sorry.

I'm more puzzled by their responses than yours, but the controversy (such as it is) seems to have passed.

Hey, I liked Joan. Of course, that simply proves your point.

True, true. But I was curious if it made sense to anyone else the posts of those guys.

Serious note Gillian, don't let him waste your time. He is either the most incompetent person ever or a very good troll. My advice is to just ignore him.

I very much agree. He will always, whatevr his opinion on a given matter is, try to find the answer that will anger or hurt you the most. Unworthy of anyone's time.

I like to hope that I'm educating other people. After all, there are grave misunderstandings about bipolar disorder out there.

Yeah, well, I was on some political boards several years ago, and there were people on those boards who threatened to kill, murder, shoot, stab, dismember, bludgeon, etc. anyone who disagreed with them. On a couple of those boards, two guys died of heart attacks while posting. Those are the ones we know about because their relatives contacted the boards to let us know. But there were others who just disappeared. We don't know what happened to them.

Bill is beyond educating. Didn't you know? He knows everything.
