Hi folks, I'm going to be upgrading the forum to the latest version in about 20 minutes. So you'll see it closed down briefly.

Okay, the upgrade's done. We're now running vBulletin 3.6.

As always, please let me know if you find any strangeness. It's a pretty significant upgrade, so there are bound to be problems.

Also, I'm currently running something that update all the old threads, but it's going to take a few hours. Things will shift around.

vb3.6 looks to have some great features.

We'll be upgrading in the next few weeks too.

Good luck!

I think there is a bug in the Quick Reply Button, whenever I post it kicks me to the Advanced Section with the message "1. This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between posts. Please try again in 27 seconds." or whatever, but it posted fine anyway. Seems like it's trying to post twice.

Also after you edit a post there are a few oddities such as the post being wider and some extranious characters ("]]>") near the "Post Reply" button at the bottom of the page.

I dunno about the second problem, but yeah, I'm having trouble with the quick reply button. Maybe clicking once on the quick reply makes it post twice in succession.

Test

EDIT: Yes, I click on "Post Quick Reply" once and get the message "This post is a duplicate of one you've posted in the last five minutes."

I think I found one, although it may be related to the thread update (I'm posting this 2 hours and 30 minutes after you mention it may take several hours). In the Universe today forum, when I click on the last post button, I get an error message telling me that no thread has been specified. Other forum's last post button seem to be working normally.

I had a bug on IceInSpace Forums (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum) once where using "quick reply" posted twice..

It was something to do with Ajax and the javascript - if I remember it correctly, it was something to do with another php script (a calendar I was using) stripping or translating characters from the URL.

Searched my old email, this is what was breaking the quick reply:

The code stripped the back slashes off POST,GET & COOKIE globals which vbulletin uses during a post.

Maybe the new security stuff you're using is doing this?

Same here. I guess I'll just use the regular "Post Reply" button until this is straightened out. ;)

Well seems to have been fixed, or perhaps it's just the slowness of this computer's connection, lol

Not fixed yet, for me. :(

This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between posts. Please try again in 28 seconds.

I'm still getting the "duplicate post" message.

I got that once earlier, but it seems fine now...

EDIT: Did fine this time.

I've turned off some of the security features for the forum specifically. They're more general to protect the server, so let's see if this fixes the problem for everyone.

I got this phenomenon today and this evening. I logged off and logged back in, posted somewhere else, and it didn't happen. Logging off clears your cookies, maybe there's something that the new version doesn't understand?

BTW (and it's been like this for some time), why, when you quote a message that quotes a third message, does the original quote not show up in your quote? Does that make sense?

Yes, and I think it's been that way since the merger and the switch to vBulletin. I assume it's so that we don't have massively nested quotes, but it would be nice if it allowed two levels, at least.

I guess I can do it manually. Only without the ">" button.

Oh, I can add the button, but requires work.

Yes it would. You almost have to go back and do it manually (which can be a real pain in the neck) or leave it at one level. Which sometimes leaves you wondering on what exactly the quote was referencing.

I thought the spaces between posts looked different. :)

Are the arrow buttons in the quote blocks new? They're good to have, either way.

The "quick reply" problem is back (at least for me). Also, board just got very slow. May or may not be related.

OK, it didn't happen this time. Oh well.

One quirk I've encountered: I can't seem to mark the Universe Today Story Comments forum as read. This may have some relationship with the two old podcasts which appear to be "stuck" at the top of that section.

That's what I was trying yesterday (at several points throughout the day), to no avail. Today it's worked. Wonder what caused that.

Getting the following an awful lot of times today:

Database error The database has encountered a problem. Please try the following:
Load the page again by clicking the Refresh (http://www.bautforum.com/#) button in your web browser.
Open the www.bautforum.com (http://www.bautforum.com/) home page, then try to open another page.
Click the Back (javascript:history.back(1)) button to try another link. The www.bautforum.com forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them (frasercain@gmail.com) if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience.

That's just trying to access the forum & threads generally. Even when that hasn't occurred, it's often been pretty slow (10 seconds - a minute) to respond.

There there's you're problem. You should be using HyperMatter.

Something "hinky" is going on here...

George

It seems slow here, too. However, the animated icon that pops-up when I click "save" after editing is nice, and the time to save varies from fast to reasonable (5 to 10 seconds at worst).
