A good game, Knowledge Seeker. I'll let everyone else have a go at it, since I've already figured this one out ;)

I have no idea what The Black Cat and Frog March meant by
their cryptic comments, so I'm game.

No matter how specific the 'thing' is, it can't need anywhere
near 200 questions. If people don't deliberately goof around,
I predict it will be found out in less than 25 questions.

Is it made of particles (such as atoms, electrons, or photons)?

Lots of 'things' are not made of matter.

Is it visible to you as you read this text?

althought it is not visible, its still 'made up of' atoms and such, i cant see them but there there.

were reading my earlier question, have you ever seen it?

yes, i think i said the 'thing' is in 2 meters of me
That didn't mean that you had ever seen it. The thing could be
a part inside your computer, and it is at least theoretically
possible that you have never opened the box to look inside,
however unlikely that may be. Or the thing could be too small
to see without a microscope. Or it could be made entirely of
transparent gas. Lots of possibilities.

Is the 'thing' something you have had since the day you were
born? :)

I just noticed the hidden text in your original post, but I didn't
read it. The color you used for the text must be slightly lighter
than the background color. Um... I'll make a guess: Is the 'thing'
the hidden text itself?

I just realized why the hidden text became visible to me when it
was not visible before: I changed the brightness control on my
monitor a few minutes ago while working on some graphics.

I only noticed it because I have the habit of highlighting text while I'm reading it. Just luck on my part.

I was trying to think of ways he could have hidden the answer in the riddle and realized he might have hidden the text that way. Since I was looking for it I could just barely see it.

i guess everyone has the answer
Does that mean I should go ahead and highlight the text in your
first post to find out if one my last two guesses was correct or
nearly correct?

Just luck (and a high-contrast monitor) I guess...

I looked. Both of my guesses were wrong.

Barely (without highlighting it)How about this? :)

There is another answer that I think fits very nicely, without requiring highlighting. How about a button?

Think about it. If we started with 20 questions, and he extended it to two hundred, he's given us the number 0, a button. And I don't know if anyone else has ever heard of giving buttons to wedding guests, or to lovers, but they are both traditions I've heard of, and they fit with "if you are close."

Since it's "very specific," one might go further and say it's the "button" at the end of that 200, that particular instance of the number 0.

Edit: my little sister just gave me an even better solution along that line: a ring. You'd give it to someone close, and though it loses some of the button pun, it's more accessible. It's still a 0.
