I've noticed a trend that's not helping the board, much. For lack of a better term, I call it fractional topic creation, where a topic is created by one user, then recreated with a slightly different bent by another user. Results include several fractionalized topics which should really just be one topic.

Potential solutions include using a somewhat more encompassing topic title, or simply raising one's new perspective within the original topic profile and letting the thread go where it may.

The only reason to consider using fractional posting is when the original topic title is already very focused away from one's own idea/perspective, and there are so many recent posts that a new perspective would just get buried.

Something to think about.

Maybe they should limit topic creation to 2.5 topics per half-poster per quarter...;)

When you see that happen, you can always suggest that threads be combined.

Yes, one of the nice things about forum software is the ability to fuse multiple topics together, or just close redundant ones.

I thought this was going to be about fractions. I was all ready to share Mr. Math Crank's thoughts on fractions (though his main crusade is Zero By Zero.) Fractions is NOT DIVISION. (http://members.lycos.co.uk/zerobyzero/index.html)<--Psycho Alert

Yeah, threads can be merged; you could always click on the alert button and ask for a merge, I suppose.
