This free book that we're making available has kind of taken off.

We've had about 40,000 downloads in the last two days or so, and it's eating up my bandwidth pretty quickly and bogging down my server. Can anyone out there pitch in with some server/bandwidth space so I can set up some mirrors? Just drop me an email at info@universetoday.com.

How big is the file and about how much bandwidth is needed to set up a mirror?

Can't answer the second question, mickal, but the file is 13,902 K.

13 meg x 40, 000= 520gig for two days... 7, 800gig a month....

Hmmm That's alot

I only have a 50gig bandwidth(what can I say it's the cheapist)...

Well thats a lot of data. But Remember that 40,000 includes the Slashdot effect (http://science.slashdot.org/science/06/01/07/1417210.shtml?tid=160&tid=14), which has crippled many of a site before. But tnow that its off the /. frontpage there should be less downloads. And many of the subscribers who are going to download it already would have. So there shouldn't be as many downloads.

Well I'll leave it up to fraser:
I can offer 49.95 gigs(I don't get a lot of traffic ;) )

Can I suggest we create a bitorrent download. I could do this for us all. I just need the official go ahead before I do.

This we we can divert the bandwidth use away for your servers.

If you'd checked the link Fraser put in the original post, you'd have seen that it's already there.
