I was wondering if it would be possible to include a Flea Market/Swap Shop forum whereby UT forum members could sell or trade old and unwanted astronomy related items.

Perhaps there's an old 4.5" reflector gathering dust in your basement, or some old eye pieces or filters, or maybe some old astronomy books and magazines.

On the other hand, maybe astronomy equipment is the kind of stuff that people just don't get rid of.

Just a thought.

That might take a bit of planning, though...
Otherwise I see no reason not to do it, so if there is mods please educate me...

Various legal issues. While I cannot speak on Fraser's behalf running something like what Big Brother Dunk is suggesting would leave Fraser and the various users up for legal issues if a deal wen't astray. A seperate agency could be arranged, but once again it has to be arranged at Fraser's disgression.

I also belong to a golf forum where they have a flea market. If there are any golfers out there, they know the high turnover of equipment. It's very successful and I don't think there are any legal issues that the moderator of the forum has to deal with. (I will check about that though)

It's buyer beware and everyone is on their honour to hold up their side of the deal. There are very few, if any, complaints regarding transactions made in that flea market.

Exacty, i though discussing old and present would be good too!

You mean like discussing new science innovations? Sounds good.

I checked it out with the moderator of the golf forum, and he's totally hands off as far as the flea market/swap shop is concerned. He said it's buyer beware, and he has no legal responsibilities.

Dont you think theres enuff buy sell or exchange sites on the net. Some have astronomy sections. Look through it with google or others. If you've got some stuff for sale or swap. List it and see what unfolds, but dont expect poor old Frazer to manage your shop... good luck.

There's no real legal issue, as you're not buying it from the forum. There's already an Astronomy equipment and accessories forum, which would be the ideal place for the type of threads you are referring to.

Kashi

The advantage of buying and selling on this site as opposed to ebay and other places, is that this is a community and everyone "sort of" knows everyone here. My point is, is that I'd feel more comfortable buying something from Starlab or Ola D than someone who's more anonymous.

Also, Fraser wouldn't have to do anything.

In any event, Kashi's idea is a good one. If I have something to sell, or want to buy something, then I can post it in the equipment and accessories forum.

Thanks.
