Wooooowwwwww!
Amazing Movie!!
And stay for the credits to hear Jane Monheit's hypnotic version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"
I always watch the credits and was one of the last 2 people in the theater, it was dead quiet when her rendition started, acapella(sp?), just her voice. And after such a BIG film, an amazing thing to experience. :)

Hi Bossman! OK, how about Giant Flying Robots , among other things. I did read that almost every frame of the movie has computer graphics in it.
I only see one or two movies a year, and I wanted to sit there and watch it again. It's really hard to describe the imagery and the story. Besides, I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.
Sorry, You'll just have to trust me. :) Tell you what, If you go and don't like the movie, I'll make sure I swing by and give you a ride on my Solar Assisted Flying Vehicle before I leave for Mars. How's that?

Visually the movie is stunning but the plot has holes you could drive a flying aircraft carrier (!) through. Jude Law didn't make a very convincing larger-than-life hero in my opinion and the chemistry between him and Gwyneth Paltrow was in need of a heavy-duty catalyst. With the weird mix of historical and advanced technology in a film that was set in 1939 was this supposed to be taking place perhaps in an alternate univese?
The flying robots were right out of a 1940's animated Superman cartoon that I've seen a few times. That may have been an intentional homage since there were nods to a number of old movies throughout Sky Captain.
Angelina Jolie as a one-eyed fighter pilot in the 1930's? Please.
I give it two and a half stars.

Dave, Omigosh! :o It sounds like you've given this movie some thought, and applied your intellect to a critical analysis. I don't think you're supposed to do that with a film like this.
I checked my analytical thinking at the door and focused my critical right hemisphere on the sole job of targeting my left hand into a big, self-buttered :P bag of popcorn. I suspended my disbelief so far that if Angelina Jolie had 2 eyepatches and was standing on her head wearing a circus clown costume, I would have believed it was relevant to the story line. :D
I can agree a bit about Jude Law, one friend of mine couldn't stop thinking of his previous role as a robot gigolo in AI while watching him(must be a gal thing!). And, I think the relationship between his character and Gwyneth Paltrow's was supposed to be disfunctional.
And by-the-by, re-
The flying robots were right out of a 1940's animated Superman cartoon that I've seen a few times.
Does anyone remember the 'SGT. Rock' comicbook series? I once had a copy of his adventure battling the giant, Japanese robots on a Pacific island he was stranded on. I think they were Atomic powered.
Yeah, if the bad guys use robots, they always make 'em BIG! 'Sky Captain' at least tried to make things big, and to its credit, made some inside jokes about it. On a 0 to 4 scale, I would at least give it a PI (3.14159).

I hope you like it! I guess we'll find out how in touch I am with the collective. :P
Re, the flying thingee, as a matter of fact, earlier today I ordered some flight simulator software, a virtual windtunnel, so I can test out my design and fine tune it. Turns out it's the same software that Burt Rutan used to develop SpaceshipOne, and train its pilots on.
Soon bossman...Soon!

Tom,
In the past few years I've seen far too many CGI extravaganzas that have been utter wastes of time and money. The problem is I can't help but notice these deficiencies, many of which could be easily corrected by spending more money on a good screenplay and less on FX.
I'm afraid I just don't find Angelina that attractive; I suppose I don't care for the collagen-lip look. I did like her in "Hackers", however.
The relationship between the pilot and the reporter was supposed to be dysfunctional but at the same time there should have been a spark of attraction, a smoldering ember of their old flame.
I certainly do remember Sgt. Rock.
