Howdy Folks!
Ok, I know this is a long shot but does anyone know if there are T-adapters for digital cameras to use for prime focus astrophotography? I'm thinking of getting a new digital camera, as usual very limited budget to work with and after doing some research it looks like the Olympus C 4000 digitals are about the best buy in my price range. Please note that I am looking for a camera for both astro -and- terrestrial viewing so I'm not looking to get an SBIG or an SAC or anything as a dedicated astro cam at this time.
Obviously this c 4000 is a fixed lens camera (i.e. not removable) and I know I can rig somethin for eye piece projection stuff (with the aid of a home built version of the Orion Steady Pix mount), but was wondering if anyones heard of something to rig these for prime focus? I have a couple of ideas, but would like some more experienced opinions on this (Dave Mitsky...I would value your opinion here as well if you read this). I know this rig is certainly going to have limitations, but it's also certainly going to be better then what I'm working with (hand holding a Poloroid PDC 700 to the eye piece).
I'm probably going to order the camera tomorrow morning...found a pretty decent deal on one that includes extra rechargable NiCad's and an extra smart media card. The camera is going to be my birthday present :). The camera has an ISO equiv up to 400 and up to 16 seconds exposure, so it should be enough to work with at least a little (or again better then what I have). Also I've seen some "pro" examples of what this camera can do with daytime/terrestrial photography...it's pretty impressive for the $200 range.
