Hi,

I recently emailed Phil about a movie I saw yesterday. So I thought I would tell everyone else too. I was sitting at home and found a cool movie to watch called "When Worlds Collide." It was about two mystery planets that were recently discovered and were expected to pass closely to Earth and cause a major disturbance such as tidal waves and earthquakes. One of the planets was also expected to hit Earth. I found this movie and the "Planet X" theory to be oddly similar. Perhaps Ms. Lieder was watching this movie at home as I was and thought to herself "Hey, thats a great idea I can tell everyone that a mystery planet will pass by Earth and wreak havoc. For kicks I'll tell 'em that aliens told me!"

When Worlds Collide (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0044207) is a movie from 1951. It may have been inspired by Worlds in Collision (http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=2237&forum=4), written by Velikovsky in 1950. The BA has a whole chapter about Velikovsky in his book, Bad Astronomy.

Sorry, Grapes, but I believe you are incorrect. "When Worlds Collide" is based on a book (actually, two books) written in 1933 by Balmer and Wylie, long before Velikovsky's travesty of fiction. I don't remember if the books are any good (I read them over 20 years ago!) but I still like the movie. Silly, but a lot of good parts to it.
