Our daughter just got from the library "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace Illustrated Screenplay" (1999).
Perhaps not the actual screenplay used for the movie, but with dialog and stage directions.
In one scene, Qui-Gon, Padme, Jar-Jar and Annakin have just left Watto's shop.
Quote from stage directions: "They walk by an outdoor cafe filled with a rough gang of aliens".
We all got a good laugh from that one.
I guess in the movies (at least for Lucas) "alien" is reserved for ugly non-humanoid bad guys, regardless of race, color, creed, or planet of origin.
