I've seen a fair amount of posts accusing this forum of being too "strict", "overcensored", and the like. I have a different opinion, based on my experience with other online forums. Without a clearly-defined set of rules, and without a group of moderators enforcing the rules, online forums tend to spiral downward into cesspools of sarcasm and personal attacks. Once that happens, the forum ceases to be a valid resource for people new to the hobby, because they're reluctant to ask questions or make comments for fear of being publicly ridiculed. In other words, the forum becomes irrelevant and begins a slow fade into oblivion.

This forum has been around for a long time, and I don't see the spiral of death happening here. I believe that's because of the dedicated group of mods who objectively apply a well-thought-out set of consequences for misbehavior. Thanks for what you do! Compared to the alternative, this really is quite a pleasant place.

I agree, it's good to have a clearly defined set of well-enforced rules, just so you know what you're dealing with. Thank you, Mods!

Thirded. One has to really wonder what the rulephobes really want.

There have been more than one (not quite a significant minority of) serial complainer(s) over the years who, judging by the blatant disparity between their public complaints, their private complaints, and their reports, appeared to want very little: the ability to insult you (all) with utter impunity; be totally immune from any member retaliation or mod intervention; and be able to summon the first available mod (who are all to be on instant call at all times, 24/7) to suspend and/or ban anybody (anybody) who dared to disagree with them.

Clearly not much to ask for, is it?
