SG1 'New Order part 1'

It was a much better opening than for season seven. I liked the Goa'uld negotiations plot where there was all these bluffs within bluffs. Seeing Torri Higginson's performance in this episode, I'm encouraged about her participation in Atlantis.

It was good to see Thor again and the replicators. I liked Fifth being so vengeful. It reminded me of Reese, where he had power and human emotion, but not the maturity or compassion to handle them in a good way.

Might I say that once again, they engineered a clever way to get RDA time off.

But to the BA. Othalla's sun was collapsed into a black hole to destroyed the replicators? Collapsing the sun into a black hole wouldn't actually suck things in if the mass remained unchanged. The orbit of Othalla would still have to be disturbed. I think a similar mistake was implied in 'A Matter of Time'.

Seeing some of the previews of Atlantis, I'm encouraged. I still have some doubts about the characters (not about MacKay and less and less about Weir), but I think the plot has potential and I'm absolutely sure it will look great.

Atlantis is alright, my wife likes it better than SG1, but I still prefer the classics. Major Sheppard is the best character on the show with the Scottish doctor, Dr. Carson Beckett, a close second. The wraith are halfway decent enough bad guys, but we don't really see enough of them to see their society and technology to understand how truely menacing these creatures are.

I do not like Weir. But i do like Sheppard and Macay alot. The girl T'ilc i feel very little emotion for. She is just far too cliche in a series (sg-1) thats known for breaking cliches.
So far no other women have really stood out on the show like Carter and the female doctor did on Sg-1. They really should look into what makes those women so apealing and very realistic characters and pattern some atlantis characters off of them.

The Wraith do not really pose much of a threat in my mind so far. But like Blue has said, we have barely seen them so far. When we do their aim seems to be even worse than the gouauld, and their weapons are rediculous. All stun weapons and no actually killer weapons.

Actually, that sort of makes sense to me. I mean, they feed off the life enegy of other races. If they KILL them, they can't feed off them.

Glom, they didn't show both parts as a 2-hour episode like the Sci-Fi channel did, right? I just want make sure so that, if I wanted to mention something that happened in part 2, I'd spoilerize it.

No. Just part 1.

I'm getting a little bored of the "uber-system lord" concept for the big villian. I hope they think of something special to do with Baal to distinguish him from Apophis and Anubis. I know what I'd like to see specifically, but it's not going to happen.

I would like to see someone who we have trusted in the SG-1 turn Evil and turn out to be a NID or Gould agent. It could be a really fun concept to see them become the next big villain and become truely evil.

Saw 'Rising part 1' Not bad. I was pleased we didn't have the token black guy foisted upon us much. I don't see much point in that character other than being a token black guy. I think his credit should be replaced by the Scottish doctor. I would have taken about half a fast though. The material in part one could easily have made a two parter with better pacing. They rushed through the recon of Atlantis.

Glom do you see the posibility for a "Oh no we are in danger we are about to all die!!!.....oh wait look at this control panel, its a room we have not seen before...oh look its a super secret weapon thatw ill win this all for us!!!" plot point be used several times?

I Do. Lets hope they only use it a few times. :-)

What do you think of the characters?

Personally i do not like the leader, the political woman.
The female t'ilc is too cliche.
I love sheppard and the engineer.
The doctor is so-so to me. Really havent seen him as much.

I like Weir. Torri Higginson was much better than I expected.

Sheppard is good. I was a bit concerned about him just being a pretty boy rehash of O'Neill, and he is, but he is still quite amusing.

MacKay is good as I knew he would be.

I like the Scottish doctor.

The token black guy hasn't been seen much.

I need to see more of Teyla before I make a judgement. It could go either way.

I think the structuring of the cast was a mistake. SG1 was all about that one team. But this is about a large international team so to single out a couple of obligatory characters seems awkward. It would be good if we made use of the large cast to its full potential with broad spectrum development.

So we sould see international characters of the week?

That's the risk in the current situation. Rather than establishing an entire team rather than a small team of obligatories plus supernumeraries.

I like the Scottish doctor. He reminds me of a young Bob Hope for some reason. The nose, maybe? The sarcasm? The scared type?
