A remote Mars life-detection strategy is being tested in the fjords of Scandinavia, with a goal of eventually identifying even a single biological cell hiding in the rugged landscape.

I'd like to see it tested in the Argentina desert (I'm drawing a blank on the name, but there was a recent article in the news about how it is extremely dry and they thought there was no life there).

Chile's Atacama Desert (http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=15558) - probably a good "control" sample.

Yes, that's the one.
Probably a good control, although if the test turned up positive, then they'd have to validate that the sample really did include life after all.
