Since this is an astronomy site, it's probably worth mentioning that a Japanese astronomer (Koichiro Morita from the National Astronomical Observatory) was apparently murdered in Chile (he was working with the ALMA telescope there). I'm not sure but I think the police there think it was a robbery. Here's a story. (http://mainichi.jp/english/english/newsselect/news/20120508p2g00m0dm129000c.html)

These scenarios are cool in mystery stories, but sad to read about in real life.

I wonder how long it will be before folks hook this up to a conspiracy.

It was a robbery, apparently. BBC News: Chile charges suspect with Japanese astronomer murder (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-18043856)

Christopher Quijada, 25, is accused of killing [Japanese astronomer Koichiro Morita] during a street robbery in the early hours of the morning.

[...]

The authorities say Mr Quijada has confessed to tripping him over as he tried to escape being robbed, causing him to hit his head on the pavement, but denies murder.
