I've done my role educating students for 30 years, and I am getting concerned guys like George Noory are a powerful backward force in science education, not to mention much of the media in general. He has ruled the night airwaves for a decade with millions of sheeplike followers, I really think he is doing a lot to kick up dust and create confusion in the boundary between pseudoscience, ATM, and mainstream science,; he mainly features guests from the first two categories, but doesn't do any attempt to educate his followers in the distinction. I prepared for the students hundreds of misconceptions to watch out for. It's a sorry state of affairs, all this technolgy, and all this nonsense perveyed over that technolgy. I am satisfied the people here understand this distinction and am preaching to the choir, but this is really a pervasive problem. I worried a little while Art Bell was there, but Noory has really ramped it up.

Unfortunately thoth II, Noory is just one of many. Watched a bit of the Canadian History Channel last night and all these wing nuts were talking about some ancient civilization off the coast of India that they say flourished 10s of thousand of years ago! Of course it was under 100s of feet of water, and the currents were so fierce diving was impossible. There were all sorts of archeological/ paleontologist talking head "experts" spewing forth: absolutely sickening. Thanks to educators like you, civilization just may stand a chance. Hang in there.

thanks, and you're right. gotta be honest with you, most of the students thousands who've I've encountered, have many science misconceptions and no idea how to separate out quality of sources.

Unfortunately, freedom of speech means you get to say what you want to whomever you want. That applies as much to the Ku Klux Klan, the John Birch Society, the Flat Earth Society and global warming and holocaust deniers as it does to Noory. The fact that these people exist is to me something of a relief; it means that we are not enforcing a conformist orthodoxy and that those who chose to follow the "right" path are doing so because they want to.
