i don't get to watch SG1 very much- usually i am out running around doing stuff. but i did catch the 2 hour season premier Friday night. good stuff.
my main question is about the black hole they encounterd when they came out of hyperspace (or whatever they call their faster than light plot device). would a black hole tear a ship apart like that? and if the gravity was so intense, why were't they plastered up against the back of the ship and unable to move? seemd like gravity was pulling them down to the floor of the ship (must be ome good gravity generators), but the ship was fighting with all it's might to not get pulled in or break up.
oh, yeah- just how DID Thor make that star turn into a black hole, anyways? did he use his hammer and squish the star?

oh, and the new Atlantis spinoff looks like most spinoffs of good shows- get young, attractive people and put them in a precarious situation- this time a one way trip to the lost city of Atlantis. kind of seems vaguely like Star trek:Voyager to me, but the crew knows going in they are in for a strange journey.

I am so bummed. This is my favorite show. I have classes on Friday nights until 10pm. I need to learn how to use my VCR. SciFi used to show the rerun later in the night. Not anymore. I wait for the reruns and live through your posts.

I certainly hope Atlantis doesn't turn out like Voyager, rock bottom ratings and crappy story lines and all...

Candy, it looks like they'll be re-airing the episode next Friday (Jul 16) at 7:00pm (8 central). So set your VCR on long-play to get all four hours.

You know, I really hate to say this,but...

After seeing the previews, I realized that I didn't particularly like any of the new characters. Don't the producers understand that RDA already had a "fan-base" before SG1 even started...all these unknowns, at the "helm" of their own series doesn't "bode" well, IMO...but I'll give it a chance...we'll just have to wait and see.

I just hope it doesn't turn out like That 80's Show, which must have sounded like a good idea to the producers...and very quickly went straight down the "drain".

The alpha male seems like an arrogant pretty boy. The new Elizabeth Weir seems like a refugee from Andromeda. The token black guy seems like Travis Mayweather *shudder*. The alien also seems like a refugee from Andromeda.

I guess it's up to McKay to save the day.

The new Elizabeth Weir...

So is it a different actress playing the part??

I guess it's up to McKay to save the day.

Funny, but he's the "guy" that I dislike the most! :)

I saw bits and pieces of it, mainly the last 45 minutes or so, during the encore showing while packing at the end of vacation. Between having missed the first part and pretty much all of Season 7, I was basically lost.

Anybody know when season 7 is due out on DVD? I'm almost up to season 5 in my watching now.

Basically, if I understand right, their drive system is gravity-based. So, as long as the engines were running, they had artificial gravity. The shields were also helping hold the ship together against the stress, but they were losing ground. Once they diverted power from the shields to the engines they were able to move a little better, but the ship couldn't stand the stresses and fell apart.

Yeah, it doesn't completely make sense, but it's a spot I'm willing to suspend disbelief on.

Most likely, they just dumped a lot of heavy matter into it. :)
