View Full Version : Apollo 13 accident hoaxed?

This is a new one. Apparently, the Apollo 13 SM accident must have been a hoax, because it's landing was hoaxed from a Nevada soundstage. This attached evidence proves it conclusively....

It has to be fake, look at the supposed background, it has stars on it. Everyone knows that when NASA faked it they used a black background without stars painted on them.

Notice that the flag is backwards, too.

Where is the big ventilator that kept the flag fluttering?

I don't think that flag has the correct number of stars on it...
The lack of stars must mean it's a fake!

Hmm. "Incredible space odyssey." I suppose that's a nice euphemism for &*$#ing loony.

Is this created to make fun of the HBs? It almost seems satirical. #-o

It's got to be fake. The astronauts would never fit through the LM's hatch.

Last night I watched "Apollo 13" again ( it was on the Sci Fi channel ) and once again it brought back all the feelings I experienced when this was happening. I remember being in the lounge at my college and the television was never off...for days. Someone always stayed up, just in case. People were worried and distracted...we just had to get them back, it just had to be ok. Never, ever was there the least inkling that this was staged. We saw the astronaut's families and NASA command center and we were all aware that this was serious. It was not entertainment and we all knew it.
How, anyone can even imagine that this was somehow "faked" is beyond me to comprehend. In thirty years will we begin to hear that 911 was filmed on a Hollywood set?

What's even more daft is the idea that Apollo 13 was staged because of flagging television ratings. They thought they would "spice up" the space program. Unfortunately that's a very "external" view. What Apollo 13 ended up doing, other than delaying the program until the problems were solved, is ultimately convincing NASA to curtail the program. And it gave more ammunition for NASA's enemies in Congress. Even though it had a happy ending, Apollo 13 scared lots of people who were in decision-making positions. To have planned it as a ratings boost ignores the real political outcome.

But -- to anticipate the HB response -- NASA wouldn't have known that in advance. They expected a ratings boost but didn't realize that they would imperil the entire program -- which, in any event, was being faked. As recent events have shown, government agencies don't always think things through.

Then would NASA blame itself for the problems that led to the accident? The Apollo 13 review board report identified a whole lot of procedural problems within NASA (although, perhaps, it avoided criticizing management).

If NASA didn't anticipate a backlash to Apollo 13 then they must not have been paying attention during Apollo 1. Three astronauts dead before they left the ground sent a pretty clear message to NASA that they had better get the program in shape. When dealing with politicians, you never give them an opening. Even though Apollo 13 had a "happy" ending, you never give a politician an excuse to hold hearings on your competence.

OK; now I'm confused....
Apollo 13?
He did say Apollo 13, right?
The one which didn't land on the moon?
Or to be more precise; the one which while no Apollo landed on the Moon 'cause it was all a big hoax was a bit of a different kind of hoax because it deluded the people into thinking it didn't land on the Moon just like all the others didn't really land on the moon even though they said they did?
Or something like that.
Well; I guess it beats the guy that sold 24 packs of ketchup for $300.

I'm guessing he wouldn't last long here. His hit and run (or hit and dodge) tactics probably would get him banned soon enough.

The sci-fi channel? What more proof do you need? The government are admitting it was just fiction!

Well, if we really want to get into "conspiracy mode"....perhaps the government and the Sci Fi channel are in collusion or maybe they are one in the same? Come to think of it, that would explain a lot of things!

Forget Apollo 13 and Sci-Fi channel: what about MST3K?!
That was a HUGE success, and now its gone! Off the air! Its a conspiricy, I tell you! (Okay, it's still available on DVD and VHS. But for how long?!)
A comment on Apollo 13. In the movie, Lovell (Hanks) mentions that the LM's skin is only as thick as a couple of layers of tin foil and that that's all that protects them from space. Technically, that wouldn't be true. While the LM's hull is thin, there is also several insulating layers as well as micrometorite "bumper" plates on the hull. That insulates the hull and protects it as well. That also answers while the LM got so cold instead of being an oven. Doesn't it? :-k

The pressure skin was only a thin sheet of aluminum. But that was there only to contain the pressure, not to provide any structure or protection. On the inside there were wall panels, control panels, floor plates, and ceiling panels. On the outside of the descent stage there were many layers of micrometeroid shielding. On the outside of the ascent stage there were loosely fitted aluminum panels.

Not quite, but some have said that George Bush and co perpertrated the 911 attacks, fired a missile at the Pentagon etc, to invade Iraq and Afghanistan and remove civil liberties. some have said that the way the buildings came down could only have been through demolition charges etc.
To those who promote such ideas as the 9/11 conspiracy, faked moon landings and space accidents are mear trifles. The reasoning seems to be that the US Government is totally evil depraved and corrupt.
I would suspect that the rise in anti-american feelings, especially about prisoner abuse in Iraq, more people are coming around to the hoax theory. It kind of matches their warped view of Americans, the INGRATES :x (The HBs that is)

Hello All. Long time lurker, first time poster.
Of course the Apollo 13 accident wasn't hoaxed: it was caused by an alien attack, trying to prevent the spacecraft from reaching the Moon with the nuclear weapon it was carrying to blow up the alien bases there! (No, I'm not serious, but the person who told me this was!!! )

At least that's a weird story I've not heard before. But that's the only good thing I can say about it...

Thanks for the welcome, Harald. I know I'm among kindred spirits here.
Yes, this Apollo 13 story is one of the weirder ones. It was told to me by an English guy who was the 'research assistant' of a chap who claimed to be Thailand's space expert and spent a lot of time trying to convince us that blurry, out of focus video of aircraft approaching Bangkok airport was footage of mysterious flying objects that could only be explained as alien spacecraft!! I wish I could remember his name: then again, maybe I'm glad I can't! Said Thai UFO expert also claimed to be in telepathic contact with the aliens and promised that they would land for us on a particular evening. He was quite disconcerted when they didn't keep their rendezvous!
