Jupiter’s Galilean satellites #2 Europa and #3 Ganymede are in the midst of a series of four weekly dual shadow transit events. The third will occur during the night of October 30/31. While Europa is actually transiting Jupiter so will its shadow and that of Ganymede. During these events, #1 Io will undergo both an occultation by Jupiter and an eclipse by Jupiter’s shadow. Prior to these events Ganymede will transit Jupiter.
I’ve created three preview graphics for October 30 at 23:45 CDT, one as viewed from above Jupiter’s north pole and a second as viewed from Earth. The third is an event timetable. They can be seen by clicking http://www.curtrenz.com/astronomical then going to the page for Superior Planets.
Descriptions and photos of these events would be welcome additions to this thread.
