The last two months have gone by quickly here as we’ve gone through beta and just now officially launched. In that time, you have identified over 150,000 craters and 4000 other features while supplying us with feedback on the interfaces, design, and other things. With that, we will be presenting a poster at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LPSC) tonight, starting in just about four hours. The results are … in! In the first full week after being publicly announced, Moon Mappers accumulated 59 contributors who annotated 1456 images with 25,000 craters and 478 features.
On March 22, 2013 we found out that many NASA EPO programs will be suspended as a direct result of US budgetary sequestration. The full ramifications are still being learned, but we are proactively working to raise money to make sure that CosmoQuest can continue to support its staff and its programs. As we are able, we will also use any monies we raise to contract amazing people whose jobs are negatively impacted by budgetary cuts.
